MOTHER EARTH Mother Earth is fresh out of the Raku firing. She represents the beauty of this earth and all that we are thankful for this time of year. Crystal Tower My new Raku work can be see in the following gallerys: Southwinds Gallery, Kernersville, NC, Red Dog Gallery, Winston-Salem, NC and The O'Brien Gallery , Greensboro, NC. Other exciting showings are: ArtStock on Display at The Center for Creative Leadership, Greensboro. The opening reception for this exhibit is August 22. The second exhibit is sponcered by the Hirsch Wellness Network at Revolution Mill Gallery, Greensboro, NC. It is a fund raiser for cancer patients. 2025 Raku

This year i am focusing on new raku ideas and new gallery exhibits. Please visit The Red Dog Gallery, 620 N Liberty St, Winston Salem, NC for my work in their exhibit, "Break the Ice". This is a look forwad to spring. Also visit The O'Brien Gallery, Greensboro, NC. They have wonderful contemporary art and several pieces of my horse hair raku. The Southwinds Gallery, Kernersville, NC, has several of my raku pieces. This is the perfect time of year to explore creativity and new ideas in clay.

Since i have retired from traveling to Art and Craft Festivals, i have looked for other opportunites to show my work. I still love to explore new ideas in my clay. Here are upcoming events. Mother Earth reminds us to cherish the earth we live on and take good care of this land. This year i have been working on new ideas for my raku and teaching some classes. i will be posting new work and sharing new pieces of my Raku and horse hair Raku.

Summer 2023

 I have been working on horse hair pottery since the weather has warmed up. I am drawn to the contrast of the black and white. It is a very spiritual process to honor the horse.

They are made and ready for you!  If  you love walks along the beach and the beauty of natures designs, then these are for you.  Each shell is hand thrown, cut and sculpted into this form, inspired from a natural shell.  The raku process creates all of the rich colors of copper when each shell is fired.

New year, new raku

 

This Raku piece is carved, burnished, smoked black, copper glaze accents with natural copper on lid.  I love to create different combinations of the copper and black in the raku process. Adding the natural copper on top completes the look.

This is my newest Raku piece and it is one of thee pieces in an exhibit at the North Carolina Pottery Museum in Seagrove, NC. They have invited a select group of NC Raku  artist to an exhibit on Raku. It is a great collection of works. The exhibit will run thru early June.

Mother Earth

While staying at home, I have been working in the yard, cleaning, pruning and planting flowers.  Spending time in nature has inspired my latest raku, Mother Earth.  The beauty of nature with the birds, bees and green, green plants brings calm to a troubled sole.  It reminds us of what is important and maybe what is not.
